I've always had a place for Mitsubishis, especially those from the early 90s. Truely built tough.

The 2.0L 4G63s are rock solid, and even in N/A form do well to propel a large sedan like the Galant.

If you were wondering why there is a rubber boot over the strut tower with tubes/wires from it, do read on...

Modifications to the engine was mild, primarily removing of the balance shafts (which alone, account for 5hp), SAFC to adjust the fuel trims, bumped up fuel pressure, ignition timing adjustment, K&N filter and a straight flow muffler, and basically removing stuff that I don't need. A/C, Power steering.
Best performance numbers for it were;
0-100 in 7.8s
1/4 mile in 16.1s
Numbers which wouldn't embarass itself even today. Never quite dyno'ed it but it looks like it was packing 155hp and something to 150ft-lbs of torque at the crank.
And guess what; I had 2 of them. (if you are wondering why the #plate are the same. In canada, the plates follow the owner, not the car)
Both 1989 Vintage, both solid like a rock.

This is why I like Mitsus, they pack a lot of technology that were very cutting edge in the late 80s.
Both Galants had ECS or Electronic Controlled Suspension. What they are are infact electronic adjustable dampers what can adjust ride height (via air assist) and shock damping, like those found in the Tein EDFCs and the Mercedes Airmatics. All controlled from the dashboard. Now this was 1988! And handle did it. THe system is inteligent enough to adjust individual dampers based on how hard you are turning from yaw sensors and steering angle. What you get is flat cornering and 0 brake drive.
On top of that it has adjustable power steering assist, a full body computer that controls everything from your security system, power windows, lights, and even lets you choose what colour you want your meter panel to display :p.
Good car, saved my ass actually. The Blue Galant in perticular, I wrecked running into a 1999 Ford Windstar (Naza Ria sized MPV) at 90kmh (the guy jumped a stop sign). I practically walked out with a sore neck for a few days. The minivan was 2ft narrower where I T-boned it. And best of all, the headlights and radiator remained intact. and the car was drivable after I bent out the fender which was rubbing a tyre. Now hows that for being a tank!

Yep thats a 90km/h crash. Believe it!
I will miss them dearly. Perhaps I might pick a Galant VR4-RS one day.
Thats not all, actually I had a ....3rd one. a Red 1992 2.0L SOHC Auto...which I never bothered to replace the engine and put it on the road.

Look at it taking a peak at my built turbo engines.... There's also a white Galant parts car beside it to so if you include that, thats number 4.
